What is the difference between a slip and fall and a trip and fall accident?

In a slip and fall accident, an individual experiences a sudden loss of footing due to a slick or slippery surface. This can be caused by many things such as a wet spot on the ground, a loose floor mat, or even by ice or snow. Slip and fall accidents can occur inside a building or outdoors. In a trip and fall accident, an individual trips over an obstacle, such as a curb or a wire. Trip and fall accidents typically happen outdoors due to the presence of various obstacles. Anything can cause a trip and fall — a raised sidewalk, potholes, tree roots, or even a broken step. In both cases, the accident can be caused by a property owner’s negligence. In California, the property owner must take reasonable care in order to make the premises safe for guests and visitors. If the property owner fails to do so, a slip or a trip and fall accident can occur and the property owner may be found liable. However, the victim must be able to prove that the property owner was aware of the hazardous condition or should have been aware of it in order to be eligible to receive compensation.
