What is the deadline for filing taxes?
In Maryland, the deadline to file your taxes is April 15th of each year. This is the same deadline for filing taxes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It’s the same date each year unless it falls on a weekend or holiday when it will be extended to the next business day. If you can’t file your taxes by the deadline for any reason, you can apply for an extension with the IRS. This will give you an extra six months to file your taxes. However, you will have to pay any taxes you owe by the April 15th deadline. Otherwise, you may be charged interest and/or penalties for late payment. If you’re unable to file your taxes on time and need to get an extension, you can apply online or submit a paper form. If you’re using the paper form, make sure to attach a check or money order for the total taxes owed along with the form. It’s important to note that requesting an extension doesn’t mean you won’t owe taxes. You’ll still be responsible for paying what you owe by the April 15th deadline. So if you think you’ll owe taxes, make sure to plan ahead and set money aside to cover the amount.
