What are the laws concerning the use of artificial intelligence?

In Indiana, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other forms of automation need to comply with state and federal laws and regulations. In particular, Indiana Code 35-43-1-1 to 35-43-1-19 governs the general use of AI. This law states that the use of AI must be done in a manner that does not “infringe upon constitutional or other legal rights.” In addition, the use of AI must be done in a manner that does not “limit or restrict commercial activity.” Indiana also has specific laws concerning the use of AI in areas such as health care, education, financial services, and civil rights. For example, Indiana Code 33-37-3-4 requires that any use of AI in health care services must be done in a manner that respects the patient’s privacy. The Indiana Financial Institutions Law also requires that any use of AI in the financial sector must comply with applicable laws and regulations. Finally, Indiana also prohibits the use of AI in any manner that discriminates against an individual based on their race, religion, sex, color, national origin, ancestry, or age. All of these laws must be followed when using AI in Indiana.
