What are the laws concerning cyberterrorism and the use of malware?
Cyberterrorism and the use of malware are illegal activities in the state of Georgia. Cyberterrorism is the use of computers or networks to disrupt, destroy, or threaten the use of computers by unauthorized or illegal means. The use of malware is the malicious installation of software on a computer or network in order to gain access to data or disrupt a system’s operation. In the state of Georgia, cyberterrorism and the use of malware are prohibited activities and can result in serious legal repercussions. The Georgia Computer Systems Protection Act, amended in 2020, prohibits “unauthorized access to, use of, or interference with computers, computer networks or data”. It also prohibits “unauthorized use of, interference with, or damage to, computer equipment or software”. Violations of the Georgia Computer Systems Protection Act can result in criminal charges and penalties, such as fines and/or prison time. Civil remedies may also be available for victims of cyber terrorism or malicious software attacks. In addition, the Georgia Department of Homeland Security has laws in place to prevent cyber terror attacks and malicious software from occurring. Businesses and organizations must establish and maintain security measures to protect confidential information and customer data from being obtained or manipulated by cyber terrorists. By following the cyber laws and security measures in place in the state of Georgia, citizens can help protect their computers, networks, and data from malicious software and cyber terrorism.
