How do I set up a trust?
Creating a trust in the state of Washington can be done in several steps. Firstly, you must decide on the type of trust you wish to set up. The two most common types of trusts are revocable and irrevocable. Revocable trusts are those which can be changed or amended. Irrevocable trusts are those which cannot be changed or amended once created. Once you have decided on the type of trust to set up, you will need to create the trust document. This document will outline the terms, beneficiaries, and purpose of the trust. Additionally, you must also name a trustee and beneficiaries. The trustee is responsible for administering the trust and carrying out the trustors wishes. The beneficiaries are those who will receive the assets of the trust. Next, you must fund the trust. This process requires you to transfer the assets you wish to include in the trust into the trust’s ownership. Depending on the trust you have created and the assets you are transferring, this could require filing additional documents or affidavits with the state. Finally, you must sign and properly record all of the necessary documents. Once all of these steps are completed, your trust will be officially established and will be valid in the state of Washington. You should also consider consulting an experienced attorney to make sure all of your documents are properly executed and filed.
