What is a “fix-it ticket”?

A “fix-it ticket” is a type of traffic ticket given by the police in New Mexico. This type of ticket is given when a driver has violated vehicle or motor vehicle laws. The police give the driver a ticket and the ticket states that the driver must correct the violation within a certain amount of time. Depending on the violation, the driver must either fix the issue themselves or obtain a certificate or permit from the Motor Vehicle Division indicating the violation has been corrected. An example of a fix-it ticket would be when a driver has an expired license plate. The driver would then have to renew the plate in order to avoid any further actions or penalties. If the driver is unable to comply with the fix-it ticket, they may face further legal action.
