How many points will I get on my license for a traffic ticket?
In Kansas, points on your license are assessed for certain traffic violations. Depending on the severity of the violation, you may get anywhere from 0 to 8 points on your license. The most serious violation—reckless driving—carries 8 points on your license. Other major violations, such as drunk driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, or driving without a license or insurance, can also result in 8 points on your license. Other major violations carry 6 points. Minor violations, like running a stop sign, will result in 3 points on your license. More minor violations such as speeding or failure to use turn signals will result in 2 points. And minor traffic violations such as failing to wear a seatbelt usually come with 1 point on your license. If you accumulate 8 or more points on your license, the Kansas Department of Transportation will suspend your license for 1 year. As a result, it is important to take traffic violations seriously and understand the consequences associated with them.
