What is the difference between a warning and a ticket?
The difference between a warning and a ticket is that a warning is a verbal or written notice that a driver has violated a law, but no further action is taken against them. A warning is usually issued by a police officer who witnesses the infraction. A warning alerts the driver that their behavior has been inappropriate, and that they should be careful not to commit a similar offense in the future. A ticket, on the other hand, is an official document that is issued by the police and serves as evidence of a violation of the law. A ticket can lead to a fine, suspension or revocation of a driver’s license, and/or points off their driving record. Tickets are generally used for more serious offenses, such as speeding or running a red light. In some cases, a ticket may also include a court appearance. In New Jersey, the driver may be given a warning for minor traffic infractions, such as failing to use a turn signal or failing to obey traffic signs, but more serious violations such as excessive speeding or reckless driving will typically result in a ticket. If the driver is found guilty of an offense, they may be subject to a fine, court costs, and points on their license.
