Can I get a traffic ticket dismissed if I have a clean driving record?

Yes, you may be able to get a traffic ticket dismissed if you have a clean driving record in Wisconsin. Depending on the violation, a driver may be able to have their ticket dismissed if they have no other violations on their record in the past 12 months. In order to be eligible for a ticket dismissal, a driver must have a safe driving record with no more than one moving violation and no other violations within the 12-month period leading up to the date of the ticket. In many cases, drivers may be able to attend a traffic school or education course in exchange for the dismissal of a ticket. However, this is only allowed at the discretion of the court. In addition, a driver may be able to make an appearance in court and explain why they should not be found guilty of the violation. If the court understands the driver’s explanation and believes that they deserve leniency, the court may choose to dismiss the ticket. Regardless, even if a ticket is dismissed due to a clean driving record, the violation will still be reported to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. A dismissed ticket will remain on the driver’s record for three years from the date of the violation, and will still impact the driver’s insurance rates.
