What is the definition of “unfair trade practices”?

Unfair trade practices are defined as any unlawful, unethical, or deceptive business activity that reduces competition or harms consumers. In Kansas, the Kansas Consumer Protection Act identifies certain acts as unfair or deceptive practices. These include, among other things, misrepresenting the quality, nature, or source of goods or services; falsely representing that goods or services are of a particular standard, quality, or grade; and using or employing deceptive devices or publications. The law also prohibits businesses from engaging in price fixing, bid rigging, and other anti-competitive practices. Ultimately, any act that harms competition and consumers can be deemed an unfair practice. It is important to note that businesses are prohibited from engaging in any activity that violates the law, and any business found to be engaging in unfair or deceptive practices can face substantial penalties.
