What are my options for education or training after leaving the military?

After leaving the military, veterans in Alaska have a variety of educational and training options to choose from. Through the Post-9/11 GI Bill, veterans can receive financial assistance for tuition, books, and housing costs while attending college, vocational, or technical schools. The Montgomery GI Bill also provides veterans with benefits for training and education as well. In addition to these federally funded options, some military branches also have programs for former members. For example, the Navy offers its Navy College Program which provides funding for those seeking a college degree. Other branches may offer their own specific education benefits for veterans. Alaska also has its own program to provide additional assistance for veterans seeking higher education or training. Through the Alaska Education Grant Program, veterans can receive up to $2,500 to help pay for educational expenses from tuition to books and supplies. Finally, for veterans seeking to attend college, the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) provides extensive resources and services to help veterans ease into college life. ACPE’s service team can assist veterans in exploring their higher education options and provide guidance on the eligibility requirements for obtaining veteran-specific education benefits. All of these programs and services aim to provide veterans in Alaska with the opportunity to pursue educational and training opportunities after leaving the military. With all the resources available, veterans can move on to new life experiences and fulfill their educational and career goals.
