What is the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program and how do veterans qualify?
The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) Program is a program managed by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs that helps veterans transitioning to civilian life to acquire job-related skills, obtain employment, and access other necessary services. This program is available to veterans in North Carolina who have a service-connected disability that limits their ability to find or maintain employment. To qualify for the program, veterans must have suffered from a physical or mental disability that limits their ability to work and must have served at least 90 days on active duty and been separated under honorable conditions. Once accepted into the program, veterans will meet with a Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Counselor to develop an individualized plan that can include education and training, employment preparation, job search and job placement services, and other necessary services. Veterans enrolled in the program can receive up to 48 months of assistance and can receive help with travel expenses, tuition and fees, license and certification fees, and other employment related costs. The VR&E program is designed to help veterans transition from military service to civilian life. It is a key component of North Carolina’s veterans affairs services and provides veterans with the necessary resources to start a successful career.
