Are there any educational benefits available for children of veterans?
Yes, there are educational benefits available for the children of veterans in Louisiana. The educational benefits are provided through the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA). The FAVOR program (Families of Veterans Educational Opportunities Resources) provides tuition assistance to eligible children of veterans in Louisiana. To be eligible, the veteran must have been a Louisiana resident for at least one year prior to the filing of the claim, have earned an Honorable Discharge from the armed service and also be deceased or a medically documented 100% disabled veteran, as determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The tuition assistance program provides up to $1600 per semester for undergraduate students and $1900 per semester for graduate students to attend public schools. It can also be used toward tuition at private universities and colleges in Louisiana. In addition to tuition assistance, the LDVA also provides grants for books, supplies and other educational material. These grants can help the children of veterans purchase educational materials to further their education. The LDVA also provides other supportive services for veteran families, such as financial literacy classes, educational enrichment programs and referral services to assist veterans and their families with educational and career development. By offering these services, the LDVA is dedicated to helping the children of veterans succeed and reach their educational goals.
