What is the VA Pension program and how do veterans qualify?

The VA Pension program is a benefit provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to veterans. The program is designed to provide financial assistance to veterans who served during a period of wartime and have become disabled due to their service. The VA Pension program is a means tested program, meaning that veterans must meet certain requirements to qualify. In Delaware, veterans must meet the following requirements in order to qualify for VA Pension: have served during a period of wartime, be disabled due to service-connected injury or illness, and have limited income and assets to qualify for the financial assistance. Additionally, veterans must be at least 65 years old, or be permanently and totally disabled. The VA Pension program also allows for a spouse, child, or parent of a veteran to apply for the benefit as well. This is known as the “Survivor Benefit Program” and is available to a veteran’s spouse, child, or parent if they meet the VA’s requirements. The VA Pension program helps veterans who are disabled due to their service receive financial assistance. In order to qualify, veterans must meet all the requirements set forth by the VA and by the state of Delaware. Additionally, surviving spouses, children, or parents may also be eligible for the benefit.
