How do I become a VA certified business owner?

To become a VA certified business owner in Alaska, you must have a business that is 51 percent owned and controlled by a veteran, a surviving spouse, or a service-disabled veteran. The veteran must be a participant in the VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program (VR&E) or have proof of a service-connected disability. In order to be approved, you must also provide proof of legal formation of your business and provide a business plan. Once you have met all of the eligibility requirements, you must submit an application to the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) to be certified as a veteran-owned business. The application must include information about the business, proof of ownership, and an explanation of how the business will benefit veterans in Alaska. Applicants must also submit a business plan that includes information about the type of services or products the business will provide, a description of the target market, estimated start-up costs, expected sales projections, and any other relevant information. Once the application is approved, the business will become VA-certified. The status of the business must be verified by the VA annually in order to maintain certification. Being a VA-certified business owner provides numerous benefits, including access to contract and grant opportunities from the VA and other federal agencies. It also allows veterans to leverage their military skills and experience to create valuable businesses in Alaska.
