What is the VA Education program and how do veterans qualify?
The VA Education program is a federal program designed to help veterans in Hawaii achieve educational and career goals. In order to qualify, veterans must have served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge. Benefits may include tuition, fees, and other educational and living expenses that the veteran may incur while attending an accredited educational institution. In addition, veterans may be eligible to receive funds from the VA to purchase books, supplies, and other educational materials. Veterans may also be eligible for a housing allowance to help cover the cost of housing during their studies. Disabled veterans may also be eligible for additional special payment provisions if they are unable to work or earn an income. In order to apply for VA education benefits, veterans must fill out a VA Form 22-1990. This form will contain general information about your service and how you would like to use your benefits, such as attending an accredited college or university, a vocational or technical school, or a technical training program. Once your application is submitted to the VA, it will be reviewed and a decision will be made regarding your eligibility. If you are approved, you will be eligible to receive your benefit payments within a few weeks. Veterans can use these benefits to pay for educational expenses and to help them achieve their educational and career goals.
