Is there a VA housing assistance program and how do veterans qualify?
Yes, Washington does offer a VA housing assistance program to veterans. This program is meant to help veterans who are struggling to pay for housing and need assistance. In order to qualify for this program, veterans must meet certain criteria. First, they must be a veteran of the United States Military and be legally domiciled in the state of Washington. They must also be able to provide proof of discharge from military service or other proof of service-connection. They must also meet certain income requirements, which are determined on a case-by-case basis. If a veteran meets these qualifications, they can apply for the program. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will review the application and determine the veteran’s eligibility. If the veteran is eligible, they can receive up to $60,000 a year in housing assistance. This assistance is meant to help pay for rent, utilities, and other housing costs. Veterans should note that this program is intended to supplement other means of housing assistance. The VA encourages veterans to also seek out individual housing assistance programs, such as rental assistance or home loan assistance, when looking for housing. By utilizing multiple assistance programs, veterans can make sure they have all the resources they need to secure housing.
