Are there any special benefits available to veterans who are veterans of the Cold War?
Yes, there are special benefits available to veterans who are veterans of the Cold War in the state of Louisiana. Louisiana recognizes Cold War veterans, who have served on active duty between September 2, 1945 and December 26, 1991, as eligible for certain benefits. Those benefits include a cold war recognition certificate that is presented by the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs; an identification card issued by the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs; and a Waiver of Certification Fee for State Vet License Plates. In addition, a veteran of the Cold War who is a resident of Louisiana may be eligible for a refund of income tax at the end of the taxable year. The refund is equal to the amount of taxes owed, up to an amount of $250. Veterans may also be eligible for property tax exemptions. The amount of the exemption will vary depending on the county. Finally, Cold War veterans may be eligible for specialized services and benefits offered through the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. That includes assistance with obtaining services and benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and counseling services for veterans and their families. These services are free of charge and can provide much needed support to veterans.
