What is the VA Health Care program and how do veterans qualify?

The VA Health Care program is a program that provides health care services and other benefits to veterans who meet certain eligibility criteria. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and covers services that range from preventive to acute care, mental health treatment, and home health care. In Delaware, veterans who are residents of the state and meet the general eligibility requirements are eligible for VA health care. To qualify, veterans must have served a minimum of 24 months on active duty, or have been discharged due to a service-related disability. Veterans who are retired from active duty after completing 20 or more years of service, or have a service-related disability, may also be eligible. The VA Health Care program offers a full range of health care services, including prescription drugs, inpatient and outpatient treatment, preventive care, and mental health services. The program also offers home health care services, including home-based primary care, home hospice, and home-based rehabilitative services. Veterans can apply for VA health care services online, by phone, or in person at a local VA health care center. To apply online, veterans must provide their discharge or separation papers, military service records, and any other documents requested. Upon submission of the application, the VA will review the documents and approve or deny the request.
