What is the VA disability rating system?
The VA disability rating system is a system used by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to determine the level of compensation a veteran is entitled to receive. It is based on a scale of 0% to 100%, whereby 0% indicates no disability and 100% indicates total disability. A veteran can receive additional monthly payments if they have a disability rating of 30% or higher. In Pennsylvania, VA disability ratings are approved and assigned by the VA, with certain ratings being referred to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. The VA assigns a disability rating based on the severity of the disability and the level of impact it has on the veteran’s day-to-day life. To get a disability rating, veterans must provide evidence of their disability, such as medical records, lab test results, and/or residuals from injury, surgery, or treatment. The VA disability rating system is used to determine a variety of benefits, including monthly disability benefits for veterans who suffered a disability due to their military service, an increase in compensation for those with a service-connected disability, and eligibility for other VA services. It also provides an estimate of how much money veterans will receive in disability compensation, depending on their service-connected disability rating. The VA disability rating system is designed to provide veterans with the support they need after serving their country.
