What are the requirements for a presumption of service connection?

In Florida, there are certain requirements in order for a veteran to be eligible for a benefit of service connection through the presumption that their disability or condition was caused by their military service. To be eligible for a service connection through presumption, the veteran must have been in active military service and have a disability that began within a certain period of time after that service ended. This period of time is typically referred to as the ‘presumptive period’ and varies depending on the disability or condition. A veteran must also be able to show that their disability is related to the service that they rendered. This is usually done through medical evidence, including medical records related to the disability or condition. In addition, the veteran must be able to show that the disability or condition is due to a condition that is considered to be ‘service connected’. This includes any diseases or injuries that are linked to military service, such as combat wounds, stress-related illnesses, environmental exposures, or accidents related to military service. In Florida, veterans must meet all of the requirements in order to be eligible for service connection through presumption and receive the associated benefits.
