What is a presumptive service-connected disability?

A presumptive service-connected disability is a disability a Veteran may be entitled to receive compensation for without having to prove a direct link to their service. In New York, a Veteran may be eligible for presumptive service-connected disability compensation if they satisfy certain criteria. To be eligible, the Veteran must have developed the disability during active military duty, or the disability must have been aggravated or caused by their service, or they must have been diagnosed with certain diseases after discharge.
