What is a vehicle rollover?
A vehicle rollover is a type of motor vehicle accident where a vehicle turns over onto its side or roof. It can result from a single-vehicle accident or a collision with another vehicle. Rollover accidents are particularly dangerous because they often lead to occupant ejection and car occupant entrapment, which can increase the risk of fatalities and serious injuries. In Kansas, the term “vehicle rollover” is defined by the Kansas Vehicle Legislation Act (KVLA). The KVLA states that a vehicle rollover is defined as a motor vehicle accident “where a vehicle has rolled over onto its side or roof, or where a vehicle has rolled over onto its side or roof as a result of colliding with another vehicle.” The KVLA also outlines specific regulations for vehicle rollover cases. For example, if a rollover accident resulted from a mechanical malfunction, the driver may not be held liable. Drivers must also take caution when driving on icy or wet roads, since they are more prone to rollover accidents. Lastly, the KVLA specifies an exemption for vehicles involved in rollover accidents. Drivers are relieved of liability if they can prove that all reasonable actions were taken to prevent the crash from happening. Overall, the KVLA protects drivers and passengers in the event of a rollover accident. It requires drivers to take extra precautions to prevent these types of accidents and prevents drivers from facing liability if there was a reasonable attempt to prevent the accident from happening.
