What are the legal obligations of the driver in a vehicle rollover?
In California, the driver of a vehicle that has rolled over has certain legal obligations. These include ensuring that all of the occupants of the vehicle have exited the vehicle safely, ensuring that no one is in danger of being injured by the vehicle, and calling for emergency help if necessary. Additionally, the driver must remain at the scene until police or other emergency personnel arrive. Drivers involved in a vehicle rollover should not attempt to drive the vehicle out of the overturned position. Doing so could further damage the vehicle, and put the driver and other drivers on the road at risk of further injury. The driver must also check to make sure that no one is trapped inside the vehicle, and must contact emergency personnel if needed. In addition to these safety-related responsibilities, drivers involved in a vehicle rollover have to provide their name, contact, and insurance information to any other parties involved in the incident. Furthermore, the driver must provide law enforcement with a written statement about the event. These responsibilities are legally required for the driver in the state of California.
