What is violent crime?

Violent crime is any criminal act where the offender uses physical force or the threat of physical force against another person. This includes any type of physical attack, such as murder, rape, or assault. In addition, any act of random or retaliatory violence in order to prevent someone from carrying out a lawful activity is considered a violent crime. In Georgia, violent crimes are categorized into the following categories: violent crimes against persons, violent crimes against property, and violent crimes against public order. Violent crimes against persons include murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and any other offense where physical violence is used. Violent crimes against property include arson, burglary, theft, and any other offense where tangible property is the target of the offense. Violent crimes against public order include rioting, terrorism, and any other offense that disrupts or causes injury to the public at large. The penalties for these types of violent crimes vary depending on the severity of the offense, and the jurisdiction in which the crime occurred. In general, violent crimes in Georgia are subject to some of the harshest punishments allowed by law. In some cases, a conviction for a violent crime can result in a life prison sentence, and if the person is a repeat violent offender, the sentence may be even longer.
