What type of records must employers keep in regards to wage and hour laws?
In Tennessee, employers must keep records of employee wages and hours worked. This includes information such as names, addresses and Social Security numbers of employees, the dates of their periods of employment, wages earned, deductions made, and the time and day of the week when their workweek starts and ends. Employers must also keep a record of total hours worked each day and each workweek. Finally, employers in Tennessee must also keep records of any wages due to employees for sick leave, vacation time, holidays, and other paid time off, as well as an accurate record of any deductions made from wages for items such as health insurance and retirement plans. Employers must also keep records of any wages paid to employees and any tips received. Employers must keep these records for at least three years, and they must be made available to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development upon request.
