What is the minimum wage for tipped workers?
The minimum wage for tipped workers in Pennsylvania is $2.83 per hour. This is a significantly lower rate than the national minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. However, tipped employees must still make at least the equivalent of the national minimum wage once their tips are added in. If tips are not sufficient to bring the employee up to the minimum wage, the employer must make up the difference. Tips given by customers or other third parties are the property of the employee and not the employer, so the employer must not deduct any tips from an employee’s wages.
