What is a vocational rehabilitation plan?
A vocational rehabilitation plan is a plan created by the Washington Department of Labor & Industries to help an injured worker recover and return to a job. It outlines the services and support that the worker will receive to help them build the skills needed to complete job tasks. The plan may include job assessment services, educational and training programs, job coaching, and job placement services. It may also include physical and emotional therapy and other health-related services. The plan also outlines the types of assistance the worker can expect to receive from labor & industries, such as assistance in applying for financial aid or assistance in finding a job. If an injured worker cannot return to the job they had before their injury, the plan will also include a vocational goal for the worker. This vocational goal usually consists of a job with wages equivalent to or higher than the job the worker had before the injury. The plan and the goals it sets will help the individual to successfully and safely transition to a new career and begin earning a living again. The Washington Department of Labor & Industries works with the injured worker and their doctor to develop and implement the rehabilitation plan. The plan is reviewed and updated on a regular basis to ensure that the worker is getting the most appropriate and beneficial services, training and support.
