Can I be fired because of discrimination?

In Tennessee, it is illegal for an employer to fire an employee based on discrimination. The Tennessee Human Rights Act (THRA) prohibits discrimination based on race, color, sex, age, handicap, religion, creed, and national origin. It is illegal for an employer to fire an employee due to their race, gender, religion, age, or national origin. In addition, the THRA also prohibits wrongful termination of employment on the basis of retaliation. This means that if an employee has made a complaint about discrimination or harassment in the workplace, or has filed a charge or lawsuit against the employer for discrimination, the employee cannot be fired in retaliation. Additionally, Tennessee wrongful termination laws also protect workers against employers who fire employees for exercising their rights. This includes the right to take a leave of absence for medical reasons or military service, the right to take a safety complaint or injury claim to court, and the right to refuse a job that is not safe. If you believe that you have been wrongfully terminated for any of these reasons, you may have grounds for a wrongful termination suit. You should contact an experienced attorney in Tennessee that specializes in wrongful termination cases to find out whether you have a valid claim.
