What is an insurance adjuster?
An insurance adjuster is a person from an insurance company who is tasked with assessing a claim or dispute in order to decide an appropriate payment or settlement from the insurance company. An insurance adjuster in Oklahoma may work on behalf of either the insurance company or the claimant, depending on who has purchased the insurance policy, and is responsible for investigating the incident to determine if the policyholder is eligible for a payout. First, the adjuster will review the incident report and any other evidence such as police reports, medical bills, and photographs. Then, they will interview the claimants and witnesses in order to build an accurate understanding of the accident. This involves completing research, examining the accident scene, collecting relevant documentation, and assessing damages. Finally, the adjuster will draw a conclusion about the claim, determine if the claimant is eligible for a payout, and decide the appropriate amount. If the insurance company and the claimant disagree about the decision, the adjuster will serve as a mediator to help reach a settlement. In Oklahoma, only licensed adjusters can represent an insurance company in accident law claims. All adjusters must be licensed and understand the state’s laws surrounding insurance and personal injury cases. Without an adjuster’s expertise and understanding of the law, accurate decisions and settlements may not be achieved.
