What are the different types of Admiralty Law?
Admiralty law is the branch of the law that deals with matters related to maritime transactions or disputes. It is also referred to as “marine law” or “continental law”. In Kansas, the federal rules of admiralty law are applicable, as well as the state laws. There are several different types of admiralty law that may come into play in a given situation. One type of admiralty law is collision law. This type of law deals with the liabilities and obligations of each vessel involved in a collision when one or both vessels are bound for a port in the United States. It also covers damages to both vessels and the cargo onboard at the time of the incident. A second type of admiralty law is salvage law. This type of law governs the rights and duties of a ship that is attempting to rescue another vessel in distress. It outlines the duties of the salvor (or salvager) as well as his or her right to receive payment for the services provided. A third type of admiralty law is towage law. This type of law applies when a vessel is being towed by another vessel. It outlines the obligations of both vessels, the crew, and the owner of the towed vessel. It may also provide guidance on the amount of compensation that should be paid to the towboat. Finally, a fourth type of admiralty law is ship registry law. This type of law provides guidance on the registration of vessels and the rules governing the registration process. It includes requirements for vessel owners to obtain insurance, safety certificates, and other items necessary for registration. This type of law also provides guidance on how vessels will be registered and where they will be listed.
