What are the legal requirements for aircraft maintenance?

In Minnesota, aircraft maintenance is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Aircraft maintenance is required for all aircraft, from a small single-engine airplane to commercial airliners. The FAA requires aircraft owners to keep their aircraft in airworthy condition at all times and in compliance with FAA regulations. To help ensure that aircraft remain airworthy, the FAA has established regulations that require aircraft owners to have their aircraft inspected and maintained on a regular basis. These inspections are known as annual and 100-hour inspections and must be performed by an FAA-certificated aircraft maintenance technician. During the annual and 100-hour inspections, the technician must inspect all of the aircraft’s components and systems to make sure they are in good working order. If any component or system fails to meet FAA safety standards, the technician must repair or replace that component or system. Additionally, the technician must check for corrosion and make sure the aircraft is properly balanced. Following the inspections, the aircraft must be signed off by the technician before it can be returned to service. The technician must also keep records of all completed inspections and any repairs or replacements made. In addition to annual and 100-hour inspections, the FAA requires aircraft owners to have their aircraft inspected at any time the aircraft has been involved in an accident or incident. The FAA regulations are in place to ensure that all aircraft remain safe and in airworthy condition. Aircraft owners must adhere to these regulations to ensure the safety of their passengers.
