What international laws apply to aviation security?

International aviation laws are applicable across all nations and are designed to ensure a secure, efficient, and cost-effective air transport industry. These laws are enforced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which was created by the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation. The Convention on International Civil Aviation of 1944 is the foundational treaty of modern aviation, and it established the ICAO and created a framework for international governance. This framework includes the first set of regulations for aviation security, which cover a range of subjects from airworthiness standards to the function of air traffic control. The ICAO has since created a set of standards to ensure security in aviation. These standards are known as the Aviation Security Standards and Recommended Practices (AVSECRP). They were created to promote an enhanced level of aviation security through the guidance of standards and recommendations. AVSECRP covers topics such as the prevention of unlawful interference, air cargo security, the screening of passengers and their baggage, aircraft security, and the security of airport areas. The ICAO also has a set of guidelines relating to aviation security, the Chicago Convention and its Annexes, which is the legal foundation for international civil aviation. These guidelines cover topics such as aircraft registration and the control of aerial navigation. In addition, they require nations to cooperate in the prevention and suppression of aircraft hijacking and other unlawful acts against passengers. The AVSECRP and the Annexes form the basis for international aviation security laws in Kansas. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for regulating aviation security laws in the state. The FAA has issued several sets of rules and regulations related to aviation security to ensure public safety. These laws must be complied with in order to operate an aircraft in Kansas.
