What is the process for obtaining an aircraft export certificate?
In Washington, the process for obtaining an aircraft export certificate is relatively straightforward. However, it is important to note that this is a strictly regulated process and aircraft export certificates can only be issued by the FAA or the U.S. Department of State. To begin, the applicant must contact the FAA Aircraft Certification Office. Here, the applicant will submit the aircraft registration and the bill of sale, along with other supporting documents. These documents should include the aircraft’s airworthiness certificate, aircraft registration, an Export Certificate of Airworthiness, and any other paperwork related to the proposed export. After the application is reviewed and approved, the FAA will issue an Export Certificate of Airworthiness to the applicant. This certificate is issued to certify that the aircraft meets FAA standards for export. This certificate must be presented to the purchasing nation’s aviation authority upon arrival of the aircraft, to confirm importation. The aircraft must also meet the safety requirements of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) before a Certificate of Export will be issued for the aircraft. Additionally, the aircraft must pass an outside inspection to ensure that it is ready for export. Once all necessary paperwork is completed and the aircraft is approved, the FAA will issue the aerospace export certificate and the aircraft will be ready for export.
