What are the rights of an alimony payor?
In Arkansas, the alimony payor, or the person paying alimony, has the right to challenge the amount of alimony owed and any other terms regarding the alimony awarded. The payor also has the right to make a written contract specifying the amount of alimony to be paid, as well as other conditions related to the alimony award. This can include provisions that allow the payor to modify the amount or duration of the payments in response to changes in the payor’s income or financial circumstances. The payor can also make a request to the court to modify the alimony award, as long as there are changes in the payor’s circumstances that warrant such a modification. The payor may also be entitled to reimbursement from the recipient of alimony for expenses such as medical bills, educational expenses, or unreimbursed travel expenses that the payor pays for the benefit of the recipient. Finally, the payor has the right to seek reimbursement of attorney’s fees and other costs related to the alimony award, including fees paid to experts.
