What is a copyright infringement?

A copyright infringement is when one illegally uses or reproduces someone else’s original work or artwork without permission. This includes using someone else’s artwork, music, film, literature, or any other creative works. In Pennsylvania, copyright infringement is a violation of Art Law. It’s important to be aware that copyright infringement can range from minor offenses like sharing a song online, to much more serious ones like selling a copied version of an artist’s work. When someone is accused of committing a copyright infringement, it’s important that they are aware of their rights. In Pennsylvania, the main remedies for this type of infringement are damages, injunctions, and sometimes even criminal charges. Damages are a type of monetary compensation that the court may award the owner of the infringed work. Injunctions are court orders that forbid the infringer from continuing the infringement and require them to stop using or reproducing the work. In extreme cases, criminal charges can be filed against the infringer, leading to fines and even jail time. It’s very important to know when a copyright infringement is occurring in Pennsylvania. Ignorance of this law is not an excuse for breaking it and people should always be careful about what kind of works they use and how they use them. When in doubt, permission from the copyright owner should be sought before any work is used or reproduced.
