What is the legal age to get a driver's license?
In Arizona, the legal age to obtain a driver’s license is sixteen. This is the same for all fifty states, as the federal government sets a minimum age at which a person can receive a driver’s license. However, the individual states can set additional restrictions or criteria for obtaining a license that are more stringent. In Arizona, individuals must meet the following criteria to qualify for a driver’s license: they must be at least sixteen years old; they must have completed a driver’s education course; they must pass a written test; and they must pass a vision test. Additionally, someone under the age of eighteen must provide the Arizona Department of Transportation with a certified copy of their birth certificate or other proof of identity. Once these criteria have been met, the individual can obtain a “graduate license”, which is a provisional license valid for two years. During this time, the driver must obey a number of restrictions, such as not being able to drive between 11 pm and 5 am unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. After two years, the driver may qualify for an unrestricted license. Overall, in order to obtain a driver’s license in Arizona, you must be sixteen and have completed the necessary steps and tests. Keeping up with current automobile laws is essential in helping ensure the safety of yourself and others while out on the roads.
