What are the laws about slow driving in fast lanes?

In Washington, slow driving in the fast lanes is regulated through a law called the Stay Right Except To Pass Law. This law requires that drivers driving in fast lanes, such as the highway’s far left lane, maintain the speed limit in that lane or drive at a speed that is fast enough to not impede the flow of traffic. Driving too slow in fast lanes can create a hazard for other drivers and can also increase the risk of an accident as other drivers swerve around the slower vehicle to pass. According to Washington State law, drivers must move to the right lane when they are going slower than the posted speed limit or if they are following the flow of traffic but are going slower than the majority of other cars. This law is intended to keep all drivers safe by preventing one car from holding up traffic. Enforcement of this law is handled by Washington State Troopers and local law enforcement. If a driver is pulled over for driving too slow in the fast lane, they may be issued a ticket and face a fine. It is important to remember that following this law is important in order to keep everyone on the road safe. It is also important to make sure you are aware of other drivers around you and always drive with caution.
