What are the laws about vehicle modifications?
In Kansas, modifying a vehicle in any way must abide by the state’s rules and regulations. If a modification lowers the vehicle’s ability to adhere to safety standards or to meet the original equipment manufacturer’s specifications, it is unlawful. For example, if a modification alters the frame, suspension, or brake system of a vehicle, it must be re-certified before it can be operated on public roads. Height and width measurements are also important when it comes to vehicle modifications in Kansas. For instance, no vehicle may be more than 11 feet, 4 inches high. Any modifications that increase a vehicle’s height must be reported to the Department of Transportation. Width also matters, as no vehicle can exceed 8 feet, 6 inches. These measurements are important to ensure safety on the roads. In addition, Kansas law states that any vehicle modifications must use the parts designed for its make and model. That means any part that is not designed specifically for the vehicle cannot be used, as this could lead to dangerous and potentially deadly accidents. Vehicle modifications must also use parts that are approved by the state and follow all applicable safety regulations. Finally, any modifications made to the exterior of a vehicle must be compatible with the body of the car and adhere to safety standards. If repairs are made to any part of a vehicle, they must be approved by the state before being driven on public roads. Any modifications that alter the safety and performance of the vehicle must also be reported to the Department of Transportation.
