What are the regulations regarding aircraft maintenance and operations?

In Kansas, aircraft maintenance and operations are regulated under the Kansas Aeronautics Act. According to this act, all aircraft must receive regular maintenance in order to remain airworthy. Aircraft must not be operated unless a certified aircraft maintenance technician has performed the necessary maintenance. Furthermore, the aircraft must be inspected and the maintenance procedures must be documented. If an aircraft has parts that have been altered or repaired, the aircraft must be inspected again and the repairs and alterations must be documented. The Kansas Aeronautics Act also stipulates that aircraft operators must have a pilot’s license or commercial operator’s certificate appropriate for the type of aircraft being operated. Furthermore, aircraft must always be operated within the parameters of the manufacturer’s instructions, and all air traffic laws and regulations must be followed. Aircraft must also be operated in a safe manner and the pilot must be familiar with the flight conditions and terrain in the area. Finally, any person who operates an aircraft must have a functioning radio and the appropriate radio frequencies for the airport. Also, all aircraft must be equipped with working navigational instruments including a compass, altimeter, and gyroscope. Additionally, navigational instruments must be regularly checked and calibrated to ensure accuracy and safe operations.
