What are the regulations regarding aircraft airworthiness directives?

In Minnesota, aircraft airworthiness directives (ADs) are issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). ADs are regulations created to ensure that an aircraft remains in an airworthy condition and that its components comply with safety regulations. ADs are usually issued when a condition is found that is unsafe and could cause accident or injury. When the FAA issues an AD, the owner of the aircraft must comply with the directive by either repairing or replacing the part or by taking whatever other action is specified in the AD. ADs can also require inspections or maintenance checks to be performed on the aircraft. ADs can also be issued to correct a defect or deficiency in an aircraft that has been reported to the manufacturer or that has been identified during an inspection or service. Aircraft owners must make sure that all ADs are complied with in order to maintain the airworthiness of the aircraft. ADs must be complied with as soon as possible and any associated costs must be paid for. ADs may also impose restrictions on flying the aircraft until corrective action is taken or the condition is corrected. If an owner fails to comply with an AD, they may face civil or criminal penalties.
