What are the requirements for aircraft maintenance programs?
In the District of Columbia, all aircraft maintenance programs must comply with the Federal Aviation Regulations, or FARs, issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA has published dozens of FARs that govern the content and implementation of aircraft maintenance programs. To begin, aircraft maintenance programs must comply with 14 CFR Part 43, which states that all aircraft must be maintained in an airworthy condition. That means all aircraft must be inspected for safety on a regular basis, and any defects or discrepancies must be identified and fixed as appropriate. Another FAR that governs aircraft maintenance is 14 CFR Part 91, which establishes safety requirements for the operation of aircraft. This FAR requires aircraft to be maintained to a certain standard of airworthiness, as well as specifying when inspections must be carried out. In addition to these regulations, aircraft operators are expected to maintain their own maintenance programs. These programs should provide detailed instructions on maintenance procedures, as well as what types of inspections and records must be kept. It is also important to note that FAR Part 91 specifies that all maintenance and repair work done on an aircraft must be documented in a maintenance log. Finally, all aircraft operators must keep up to date on any changes to the FARs as well as any new maintenance procedures that may be required. This is an essential part of an aircraft maintenance program and must be done in order to maintain the safety of both the aircraft and the passengers.
