What are the regulations regarding aircraft radio communication?

Aircraft radio communication is regulated in Florida according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Regulations, Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). These regulations cover all aspects of aviation communication, from the type of equipment used to the phraseology and protocols to be utilized. In the state of Florida, aircraft must be equipped with a two-way radio communication system which allows them to receive and transmit information in order to maintain communication with air traffic control, other aircraft, and air navigation facilities. These radio systems must be capable of transmitting on all the frequencies specified in the FAA regulations. Additionally, all aircraft pilots must be properly trained in the use of radio communications. This includes the knowledge of appropriate phraseology and protocols when talking with air traffic controllers and other aircraft personnel. The FAA also regulates the words or phrases used in radio communication, so that all pilots can understand each other more clearly. In Florida, aircraft must also remain in contact with air traffic controllers and other aircraft at all times, unless instructed otherwise. This includes flying in control zones, along designated routes, and in certain hazardous airspace. Pilots must also maintain proper communication at all times, including when in close proximity of other aircraft or obstructions. If a pilot is not able to maintain communication, they must report it to air traffic control immediately.
