What are the regulations regarding aircraft radio communication?
In Oklahoma, the regulations regarding aircraft radio communication are governed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). All aircraft must maintain two-way radio communication when operating within a certain airspace. Before entering the airspace, pilots must establish contact with the appropriate Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility and be assigned a discrete transponder code. Pilots must use proper radio procedures and language when communicating with ATC, other aircraft, and potential air traffic hazards. Also, pilots must maintain communication with ATC when operating within Class B, C, and D airspace and with Flight Service Stations (FSS) when operating in Class E airspace. All aircraft must be equipped with a functioning two-way radio, an appropriate antenna, and a microphone or headset. Pilots must also be familiar with the frequencies assigned to the ATC and FSS facilities which are listed in the FAA Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). Additionally, the pilot must be aware of the frequencies used for aeronautical emergency, weather broadcasts, and ground control operations. Any aircraft operating in Oklahoma must comply with all FAA regulations which includes maintaining two-way radio communication with the appropriate ATC facility or FSS. The FAA has established procedures which must be followed to ensure the safety and efficiency of all aircraft operating within the airspace. Pilots must be familiar with the rules and regulations regarding aircraft radio communication in order to fly safely.
