What are the laws and regulations regarding airspace use?

In Texas, airspace is regulated by both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). According to FAA regulations, all aircraft must fly at an elevation of at least 1000 feet above the ground unless otherwise specified. Also, aircraft must not fly lower than 500 feet above any congested area, such as a city or town. Aircraft must also maintain a distance of at least 2,000 feet horizontally from any other aircraft. The FAA also restricts the airspace for military or special-use operations. TxDOT also regulates airspace use in Texas. For example, aircraft must not cross an active runway unless they are in the process of taking off or landing. Aircraft must also yield to all manned aircraft and avoid any intentional flight path which could create a hazard or obstruct the path of another aircraft. Finally, aircraft must remain clear of all structures, such as buildings or power lines. When taking off and landing, aircraft must not bring any part of the aircraft lower than the top of the structure or any object within a 300 foot radius. All aircraft must also stay clear of any restricted airspace or other areas which the FAA may have closed off. In conclusion, Texas regulations regarding airspace use are very similar to those of the FAA, and aircraft operators must adhere to all regulations in order to maintain a safe and efficient airspace. Failure to comply with these regulations can have serious consequences, including fines, license suspension, or even jailtime.
