What is the process for obtaining a flight navigator certificate?
In Oklahoma, the process for obtaining a flight navigator certificate is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The individual must be at least 16 years of age and hold a private pilot certificate or higher with a minimum of 20 hours of cross-country flight time as a pilot. In addition, the individual must have a medical certificate, a valid U.S. passport, and an FAA written test certificate. The individual must also complete certain training requirements, including passing an FAA check ride, taking an instrument flight instructor course, and passing an FAA private flight test. The individual must also have a working knowledge of navigation, aircraft performance, and instrumentation, as well as knowledge of weather, decision making, airspace, communications, and navigation systems. Once these requirements are met, the individual can apply for the flight navigator certificate. The application process involves filling out and submitting the FAA Form 8710-1, the Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application. In addition to the form, the individual must include a check or money order to cover the applicable fees. After the application is received, the FAA will review the application and schedule the applicant for an oral and practical examination. Upon successful completion of the exam, the applicant will be issued the flight navigator certificate.
