How do I register a trademark name?

In order to register a trademark name in Michigan, you must first file an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This application includes your proposed trademark name, a description of goods and services associated with the name, and a specimen of how the name looks. Once the USPTO receives your application, they will review it for compliance with the Trademark Act. If the application is approved, you will receive a Certificate of Registration. Once your trademark is registered with the USPTO, you must file a separate application with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). This application includes information about your trademark, such as the goods and services it applies to, and the actual name of the trademark. The application must also include a copy of the Certificate of Registration from the USPTO. Once LARA receives your application, they will review it for compliance with Michigan trademark law. If the application is approved, you will be issued a Certificate of Registration. Finally, you must file a Statement of Use with the USPTO. This statement proves that you are using the trademark in interstate commerce. Once the USPTO receives this statement, they will issue a final Certificate of Registration. This certificate will serve as proof that your trademark is registered in the state of Michigan.
