What is the regulation of foreign investment?
Foreign investment is the ownership of assets located in a foreign country, buying shares of a company located in a foreign country, or investing in a business located in a foreign country. In Oklahoma, foreign investment is regulated by the Oklahoma Foreign Investment Act of 2008. This act established guidelines for foreign investors who want to invest in Oklahoma businesses, assets, and securities. The act limits foreign investment in Oklahoma to companies that are not prohibited from trading on any foreign stock exchange, or to companies that are not subject to a foreign court or tribunal’s jurisdiction. Additionally, the act restricts foreign investment to companies that have a minimum capital of $2,500,000 and that are established in Oklahoma for at least two years. In addition, the act requires foreign investors to provide the Oklahoma Department of Securities with information about the company they want to invest in, its business activities, and the source of the funds. The department also has the right to refuse foreign investments if they deem the investment is not in the public’s best interests. Foreign investments in Oklahoma are a great way to open up businesses and expand opportunities for Oklahomans. With the Oklahoma Foreign Investment Act in place, foreign investors can invest in Oklahoma companies with confidence that their investments are secure and that the state is protecting their best interests.
