What are the medical and recreational cannabis laws in my state?

Currently, cannabis is illegal in Kansas for recreational or medicinal use. Possessing, selling, or consuming any form of marijuana is considered a felony offense. In 2018, several medical marijuana bills were proposed in the Kansas legislature. All of these bills failed to pass, leaving the medical marijuana laws in Kansas unchanged. Despite the lack of medical marijuana laws, Kansas does have two CBD (cannabidiol) laws. These laws allow for the possession of CBD oil with 0.3% THC or less. This CBD oil can be used to treat severe seizure disorders, and must be purchased from an FDA approved commerical source. As for recreational cannabis laws in Kansas, there are no current laws allowing for the sale, possession, or consumption of cannabis. Possession of any amount of cannabis is considered a felony, and is punishable by up to 1 year in prison and a fine of up to $2,500. At this time, it appears that there are no plans to legalize either medical or recreational marijuana in Kansas. With this being the case, cannabis remains fully illegal in the state of Kansas.
