Are there any legal consequences for providing cannabis to minors?

In California, providing cannabis to minors can come with serious legal consequences. Depending on the specific circumstances of the situation, an adult who is found to be providing cannabis to minors could face legal charges and other penalties. If an adult is found to have provided minors with cannabis, they can face a misdemeanor offense, which carries a potential sentence of up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. If a minor is under 21, the adult can face additional charges, including a felony, which carries a potential sentence of up to three years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. In addition to potential prison time and fines, providing cannabis to minors can also come with other consequences. For example, an adult caught providing cannabis to minors may have their driver’s license suspended and/or restricted, their professional license suspended, and/or they may be subjected to drug testing. In California, adults are only legally allowed to give cannabis to minors in limited circumstances, such as when a minor holds a valid medical marijuana card. For any other situation, providing cannabis to minors could result in serious legal consequences.
